connecting rod
·
The figure shows the connecting rod.
· Its consist of small end bore, big end bore,
nuts and bolts, cap, oil hole etc...
· The function of connecting rod is to convert
reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotary motion of the crank shaft.
·
It is fitted between the piston and crankshaft.
·
It is made from alloy steel or duralumin in by
drop forging.
·
Now a days it is also cast from malleable or
spheroidal graphite C.I.
WORKING
The
small end of the connecting rod has
either a solid eye or a split eye used connect the piston by means of piston pin, and large end of
connecting rod is connect to the crank shaft by means of crank pin.
When
the piston moves at reciprocating motion ,the crank shaft moves at rotary
motion by means of connecting rod.
NOTE: -
Connecting rod must be light and strong enough to with stand
to stress and twisting force.
