HOW TO CLEAN A MOTOR

Procedure

Electric motors must be kept clean and lubricated if they are expected to work efficiently for a longer period. The following procedure should be keep a motor clean :

  • After having disconnected the motor from the power ,it is necessary to disassemble it by removing the rotor, shaft and fan assembly. All possible care should be taken not to break any wire connection or centrifugal switch mounted on the rotor shaft or elsewhere.

  • The second step is to blow out the loose dirt from the motor winding and from inside the end plates by using pressurized air from a blower. If necessary a dry paint brush or cloth can be used to carefully wipe off dirt that might remain even after using pressurized air.

  • All dirt from the passage in the frame and in the rotor should be removed .metal parts may be washed with inflammable fluid.

  • All the accessories like the starting switch the commutator and brushes should be checked and repaired before the parts are reassembled.

  • Lastly the bearing are lubricated with the recommended type of the lubricant before the connection is provided to check the operation

RATCHET & PAWL MECHANISM

INTRODUCTION ·       This type of mechanism is used in producing intermittent rotary motion from an oscillating or reciprocating motion member. ·       The ratchet and pawl mechanism consists of a ratchet wheel and a pawl, as shown in figure. ·       The ratchet consists of a round gear or linear rack with teeth. ·       A pawl is a spring loaded member that engages the teeth of the ratchet the teeth of ratchet is uniform.  Theory of operation A ratchet consists of a round  gear   or linear  rack  with teeth. A pawl is a  spring-loaded member that engages the teeth of the ratchet. The teeth are uniform, with each tooth having a moderate slope on one edge and a much steeper slope on the other edge. When the teeth are moving in the unrestricted (i.e., forward) direction , the pawl easily slides up and over the gently sloped edges...

Battery ignition system

Most of SI engine used battery ignition system. In this system a 6 volt or 12 volt battery used to produce spark. Passenger cars, light truck, motorcycles and large stationary engines are fitted with this system. Main Parts of battery ignition system:     Battery A battery is used to provide energy for ignition. It is work as storage of energy and charged by dynamo, which is driven by engine. It converts chemical energy to electric energy.   Ignition switch It is used to turn on and off the ignition system. Battery is connected to the primary winding of ignition coil by ignition switch and ballast resistor. Ballast resistor It is connected in series with primary winding to regulate current in primary winding. It is used to prevent injury due to overheating of ignition coil. It controls the current passes through primary winding. It is made by iron. Iron has property of increase electrical resistance rapidly by incre...

DC MOTOR

INTRODUCTION An electrical motor is a electric device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy (one form of energy into another form).Dc motors are widely used in applications that require control of speed ,initially high torque(used in elevator , vacuum cleaner)engine starters etc . In general in every mechanical machine such as lathe, drill machine, grinding machine, we use series motor due to its capacity of supplying constant speed. They are made in sizes form 1/100 hp to thousands of hp. We know that Dc electric devices are basically of two types: Dc motors and Dc generators, both are similar in appearance and construction. Construction of Dc motors: Yoke is the outer most part of the Dc motor which protects the Dc motor and act as cover. The other main parts are as follow: Pole core/pole shoe:-It contains the pole coil (provide support to the pole coil). It also provide low resistance path for current (which is carrie...
