INTRODUCTION
SMA is one of the smart materials a smart material is defined as one which has multiple responses to one stimulus in a coordinated manner. External stimulus can be pressure, load, electrical field or magnetic field. Smartness of the material can be attributed to the self-adaptability, self sensing, self memory and multiple-functionality. These smart characteristics provide numerous application in defense, manufacturing process and bio medical application.



DEFINATION
A shape memory alloy is an alloy that "remembers" its original shape and that when deformed return to its pre-deformed shape when heated, this material is light weight.

It is a tube and guide wire which are used for the medical treatment in blood vessel are called catheter.
Now days we are using active catheters using shape memory alloy.
Then you are thinking what is active catheter-

Catheter based diagnosis and therapy have become increasingly popular. Conventional catheters can not move actively and the operations required certain human skill. The tip of active catheters and active guide wires move actively using shape memory alloy actuators. Several micro sensor and therapeutic devices have been also developed for minimally invasive diagnosis and therapy. These devices can be used in other areas in human body and enables novel diagnosis and therapy.
